Caught

A poem is the kind of barrier
that invites you in,
a maze that is fenced by sharp thorns
and the reddest apples.

And you know what happened to Adam!

There is an Eve,
well experienced and clever in seduction.
It is she, after all, who draws you in
as the main attraction.

Her name is Beauty.

Oh, yes, She is informed
with all forms of presentation.
What in truth she seeks to sell
is satisfaction.

Once caught, you are caught forever.

The cost of such self-absorption?
You become a soul
emptied out in the quest for beauty
and, as such,
remain forever her servant.

As Beauty's shill,
you become truly translucent
to the lies she so casually spits out:
little bites of apple.
