Liminality I
DEFINITION: 1) That threshold where chaos and order interact; 2) that lucid world of which no child need be told; 3) an opening usually closed that adults slip through when hurt, faced with death, or knelt in wonder.
I practice the art of going there
and try to go
every morning with my first cup of coffee.
There I can write
in a world
of renewing connections,
also collections
of the most insignificant things.
It is there I rest,
lay aside daily pressures and stress,
contemplate the beauty
that this world
(if you can stop yourself spinning)
will and does create.
For a time that beauty is mine.
A lover once cried out to me
when we took off clothes,
"Oh, you beautiful man!"
I was surprised,
having never thought of myself that way,
now try to live up to that gift,
creating beauty
in my yard, in my house, in my scripts;
try so to live
to show others that existence is beauty,
if alone you go
into that world-in-between
where meaning and experiences meld,
where time is held,
and the gravity of being alive,
is not weighed, is felt.
