But you know that the body breaks down
and can fail completely.
Pain is its final product.

Will you hang on?
Whence comes the hope
and the courage?

The body’s a young man’s song.

When you’re old and crippled,
any song
is the product of spirit.

It may not last long,
even so, in itself, is deliberate
and the stronger song.
