The Human Condition

He calls it the human condition,
this life he leads
every day on the Metro to work.

He arrives to drink bad coffee.
He has cut out rolls
and muffins because of his belly.

He gets no winks from women
because he's old,
no offers to go out for a drink.

He can't accept that he has become a pariah
because he's old.
He brushes, chews mints for his breath.

This tale is told.
