Deadheading

Daylilies began blooming this year
in early June,
some plants bloomed out by July.
Each morning I remove the spent blossoms.
Deadheading is what I call it.

It is in the act of deadheading
I am made to feel
how beautiful is each glorious blossom
too quickly gone
and, therefore, in itself especially precious:
a display of courage!
