To a Salesman

Things you claim to be certain may be wrong.
Things you know to be false
may be true.

Truth does not spurt out of a fountain
though splash, as noted,
is new.

True facts are hard to uncover.
and some I prefer not to know.

I'm uninterested in the varnish, the cover;
I rely on the once then and now.

Don't work me your loud hocus-pocus.
I don't give a damn how you feel.

Any words being yelled pass right over
like the sound of an old fire bell.

Try logic and verified data.
Use a voice that is hushed when you woo.

Don’t rush me or I'm gone the next instant.
Being old, it's my choice and my due.

I have no burning needs that need meeting.
If I had, I would already have come.

Just send me a pretty young woman
and the sale will be instantly done.
