Fishcrows

Fish crows are caucusing this morning.
Perhaps fish guts
are what they are arguing over,
or just a habit
that’s lost, if they don't keep at it.

What is clear is that the plugged-nose croaks.
sound as if these crows have a cold
or are allergic to the common molds.

“Caw” may have been an original intent,
that got caught and bent
in the craw,
both caught and dented
between pebbles, gravel and corn.

A fish crow, if asked, would state,
assuredly with appropriate grace,
that a nasal grate,
if wearing,
is actually quite concise, if only a delight
to black crow mothers.

Fish crows are, in fact, an “Order,”
matters not whether sister or brother,
since they never sing;
but can raise one hell of a racket
upon finding a sleeping owl.

Fish crows love trash
and tear open black plastic bags,
caring not one whim
if you give a damn about mess
or infernal din.
