Five O'Clock in the Morning

We are of ourselves no answer.

The sky is dark
at five o’clock in the morning
because the clock
of summer
has been adjusted;

because we come
with minds full of stress and agendas;
because all choice
is simply
a regression of options;

because our love
is no more than a series of dances;
because life is hung
by the thinnest thread of excuse:
a new day begun.
