Struggle
1.
Jacob and Esau I carry within my bones,
each in the grasp of the other.
Life and death, two faces of God,
wrestle together.
Both emerge out of singular struggle.
One brother limps,
the other
is seeking a blessing.
And this is the mystery of God:
the I AM I am.
2.
Of God, I know only myself.
Hate is rooted deep inside me
and piety in the knit of my bones.
Piety is the first to emerge,
hate bursts forth later.
On the anvil of jealousy and murder
has my mind been forged.
My spirit has much to consider.
