Each Day is a Special Occasion

A thunderous Springtime frown,
or a wide-eyed summer breeze;
Some with lips turned down
and a rain
that refuses to cease.

Come, then, cheeks of autumn,
a face that glows
like sun on a surface of snow.

Now faces drawn and remote;
a few still open
like the welcoming smile of a friend;
or a face that begs
more time than to us is allotted;

Finally, faces thin
and ghostly that haunt through the night.

Still each face ends
and begins at another day's light:
each new occasion
a special cause for delight.
